Junior Year - Spring Semester 2014

The Project

The client is a group of 6 physicians working with a large hospital group that will be the Genesis Birthing Center. The center will be located in Mountview, California, and is connected to an existing hospital, which is a state of the art facility that is undergoing renovation to meet the emerging trends of healthcare. They desire to attract patients from all over the San Francisco Bay area by being the premier Birthing Center, by incorporating a “Boutique” approach to the design to pamper new mothers and families, as well as provide a rewarding and healthy environment for staff using evidence-based design and closely following the Planetree guidelines for a patient-oriented culture.

GBC Concept

The Concept

The concept for the Genesis Birthing Center is “Lily Pad,” describing the serenity and bond between the water, lily pad and blooming water lilies.  The Genesis Center provides the delicate care for the new mother’s child to grow just as the lily pads nurture the newly formed flowers. The space will offer a state of calm and peace during this stressful time for patients and nurses alike.
